Up to a 100% increase in the rates of Greek hotels

The crisis is a crisis and hotel rates are significantly increasing. Compared to last June, rates at Greek hotels have increased up to 100% in places, the leader in costliness being Santorini.

In Imerovigli, where guests from all over the world are expected, the increase in hotel rates reaches 95% compared to the same period last year. The average rate per night this year is as high as 501 euro, it was in the range of around 257 euro in the same period last year.

A piece of research of hotel rates conducted by trivago.gr shows that the situation in Firostefani is similar, where the average rate per night amounts to 289 euro compared to 192 euro in June 2013, which is a 51% increase.

In Oia the average rate per night has increased by "only" 10%. This June, it is around 339 euro whereas last June it was 307 euro.

The rates in Fira (the main town of Santorini) are gradually increasing as well. The average rate per night is 242 euro compared to 137 euro last June (the increase is around 77%).

Stiff prices on Mykonos too

Mykonos could not fall behind the trend, the average rate per night there being 46% higher compared to last year. In order for someone to spend one night on the island of winds he or she must pay an average of 184 euro whereas the rate per night was 126 euro last June.

The increase in the average rates on the island of Ios is significant too, 48% compared to June 2013.

A slight increase in the rates on other islands

On Rhodes hotel rates have increased by about 7% and the average rate per night is almost 75 euro. The rates on Crete have increased by 21% and in particular, the average rate in Rethymno is 109 euro compared to 90 euro last year.

More expensive accommodation in Athens

The average rates in Athens hotels have reported a 35% increase compared to last June. Tourists will have to pay around 119 euro per night on average whereas in June 2013 they paid an average of 88 euro.
