20 productions in the new theatrical season in Athens

The new theatrical season 2013 - 2014 in Athens includes comedies and musicals, directors, main characters, performers and duets. Six theatres and the Pallas Theatre and Cinema will perform various genres, so that each type of audience will be able to find something to its own taste.

Stamatis Fasoulis, George Kimouli, Dimitris Katalifos, Roulla Pateraki, Smaragda Smirneou, Giannis Kakleas, Eleni Skoti, Vassilis Haralambopoulos, Smaragda Karidi, Konstantinos Markoulakis, Zeta Makripoulia, Yiannis Zouganelis, Thodoris Ateridis, Christos Hadzipanayotis, Vicky Stavropoulou, Aris Servetalis, as well as Kostas Voutsas and Anna Panayotopoulou are just some of the names that will appear on theatres’ stages in the coming season.

Stages and performances

Dimitris Horn Theatre will stage Henrik Ibsen's play "John Gabriel Borkman", translated and directed by Stamatis Fasoulis with George Kimoulis in the main role and also starring Roulla Pateraki, Smaragda Smirneou, George Ziovas, Amalia Ninou and Eleftheria Benova. The premiere is expected in late October. After the performances, George Kimoulis will be starring in the play "The Caretaker" by Harold Pinter. It is expected in February 2014.

Emporikon Theatre will stage the play "Oleanna" by David Mamet for the second consecutive year with

 producers Dimitris Katalifos and Eleni Skoti. In December, Eleni Skoti also directed Terence Ratigan’s play "The Browning Version", starring Dimitris Katalifos, Maria Kalimani, Loukia Mihalopoulou, Harris Frangoulis, Alexandros Mavropoulos, Kyriakos Psihalis and Viron Seyradaris.

Emporikon’s third production will be a play by Pinter again - "The Collection", which will be staged in early March 2014, with producer Eleni Skoti again, and starring Dimitris Katalifos, Loukia Mihalopoulou, Harris Frangoulis and Alexandros Mavropoulos.

At Apothiki Theatre, Giannis Kakleas will direct Anthony Burgess’s "A Clockwork Orange". Starring: Aris Servetalis, Antinoos Albanis, Evdokia Roumelioti Alexandra Aidini, Kimon Fioretos, Harris Dzordzakis and Christos Malakis.

Lambeti Theatre will stage for the second consecutive year the play "Men ready for anything" adapted and directed by Thanasis Papathanasiou and Mihalis Reppas. Starring: Kostas Koklas, Thanasis Efthyimiadis, Kostas Evripiotis, Giannis Tsimitselis, Manos Ioannou, Mairi Stavrakelli, Evangelia Moumouri, Pinelopi Anastasopoulou, Maria Filippou and Niki Lami.

Georges Feydeau’s farce “A Flea in Her Ear” will be produced by Giannis  Kakleas. Starring: Christos Hadzipanayotis, Vicky Stavropoulou, Kostas Apostolakis, Sofia Moutidou, Panos Vlachos, Kostas Triandafilopoulos and Mina Adamaki.

The small stage of Pallas Theatre will present for the second time “Miss Helen’s Secret” - A Helen Zioga’s monologue based on a novel by Vasilis Ziogas “As You Have Managed, my Lord”, directed by Marianna Kalbari. Performances will take place as of the beginning of October, every Monday and Tuesday.

 

Musicals and premieres at the Pallas Theatre

The premiere of the musical "Some Like It Hot" - Sugar is expected on 1 November, directed by Stamatis Fasoulis. Starring: Yiannis Zouganelis, Thodoris Ateridis, Zeta Makripoulya and Kostas Voutsas. The production is based on Billy Wilder’s movie of the same name, starring Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis and Marilyn Monroe.

In early February, the Pallas Theatre will stage Edmond Rostand’s play "Cyrano de Bergerac", directed by Giannis Kakleas and starring Vasilis Haralambopoulos, Smaragda Karidi and Omiros Poulakis.

On 12 September, a limited number of performances of the musical "Chicago," directed by Stamatis Fasoulis will begin. Starring: Smaragda Karidi Tanya Trippi, Konstantinos Markoulakis, Antonis Loudaros and Anna Panayotopoulou.

The rock opera "Demons" is next, which is returning to the stage on 5 October with ten performances. The music was written by Nikos Karvelas, and famous singer Anna Vissi will star in the title role, accompanied by Evelina Papoulia and Panagiotis Petrakis.

The Pallas Theatre’s programme also includes a number of music and concert events.
