Prespa Lakes are located by the northwestern border of Greece, 540 kilometres from Athens, near Florina, where the boundaries of three countries – Greece, Albania and Macedonia – meet. The big Lake Prespa is divided between three countries (Greece has 36.4 ksquare kilometres of its area). The small Lake Prespa is split between Greece and Albania (Greece has 42.5 square kilometres of it). The two lakes are separated by a strip of sandy land about 4 kilometres long and up to 1 kilometre across. the Prespes National Park was created here in 1974. The lakes have over 1,500 species of plants. The most important bird is the pelican, and especially the silver pelican, a very rare species worldwide. There are 11 separate areas protected by the Ramsar Convention. You can stay in Psarades, Agios Germanos or Florina.
