Changes in life – how we accept and undertake them

In psychology, and in life the word temperament is very common. Even Hippocrates in the 5th century BC describes four types of people depending on the "prevailing fluid in their body": sanguine, choleric, phlegmatic and melancholic.
Temperament underlies our ability to be more or less flexible and adaptable in life and determines how we accept and make changes in our life. Naturally there is no single person who is "pure" type of temperament. In each one the four basic types are present in certain proportions. The vey word temperament is of Latin origin and means "ratio of features."
One of the first things that astrology pays attention to, when talking about human temperament for the distribution of planets in the zodiac signs. The twelve signs are classified first in four elements:
Fire - Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
Earth - Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo
Water - Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
Air - Libra, Aquarius, Gemini

The four elements in their sense mean different attitude towards the world.

For fire the main thing is action. It loves the adventures, the challenges, the change. Incredible enthusiast, sociable and spontaneous. It is the "active" one in the zodiac. It can easily lose heart, go out, if limited in some way.

For the earth the main thing is the contact, the touch. This is the matter. And following this characteristic is the Earth is the most materialistic one in the zodiac. It likes to have facts, details, to acquire things in a purely materialistic sense.

For the water the primary thing is the sense. It needs emotional security in the form of deeper understanding and merger. Feelings and emotions are the driving motive. To the water living without depth of emotions is the same as a life devoid of meaning.

For the air the main thing is the conceptual, the thought. It needs a lot of variety and space. It likes to move from place to place and from person to person like the wind, which is always in motion.

The second classification of characters is by quality:
Cardinal - Aries, Cancer, Capricorn, Libra
Fixed - Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius
Variable - Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces

As you will notice each sign of a given element has a different quality. Which undelies the fundamental differences between the various star signs of an element.

When analyzing the horoscope is sought which are the dominant element and the dominant quality. They are at the root of a person's temperament and are basic guide to how a person accepts and makes changes in his life. However, taking into account only the Sun like finding about 15% of that temperament. Practically all the planets are important. And by their importance they are arranged in the following order - Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. It is necessary to find the balance of the elements and only then we can make any conclusions. Usually when a fan of astrology understand that a person is born with the Sun in the sign of Gemini, he automatically expects to see a versatile, easy to get bored person, wobbler, always in motion, outgoing and highly sociable. And he is often surprised at the end. And there would be no surprise, if when looking at the horoscope of the man we find that there are 4 or 5 planets in water signs, and this makes him more closed, more morose, very emotional, looking for depth.

Speaking of life changes and to what extent we are able to accept them and seek, the dominant quality brings the more important information. In other words whether we are cardinal, fixed or variable. So I will focus on this issue.

When the cardinal quality prevails life passes through a series of constant changes, which cause great instability and uncertainty. These people have charisma, magnetic attraction, because they are very dynamic. As if they are always in the throes of something new, but don’t expect them to stay until the end of each of their initiatives. They are the people who light the fire and would lose all their enthusiasm, if they need to immerse themselves in details and routine. They are quite aggressive in their behavior towards people, they have many ideas but have difficulty in implementing them in detail. They carry the energy of the initiator, of the one who makes the first sod, leaving others to finish the job. They want to be "pioneers" in life, seeking adventure and risk. And usually they achieved success away from their birthplace or in their contacts with people and places that are "strange" to them and somehow distant. Here the changes are undertaken by the man himself, he rarely waits for the change to happen to him, but rather seeks it himself. And usually the changes are sharp and bright.

When the fixed quality prevails, life passes in a stable and secure manner. These people are careful, serious, patient and are always looking for stable, secure ground under their feet for everything. Although at first glance they may seem conservative, this is not something that should become subject to ridicule and contempt. Conservatism is a quality in two dimensions. And more importantly, it leads to conservation of vital energy. These people do not abuse it and keep it for things that would bring them success. They tend not to waist it and it is this tendency to conservation that leads to the word conservative, but in a positive sense.
They are extremely productive and are capable of taking what comes to them and making the most of it.
The key to their success lies precisely in this small detail – to take what came to them. It is hard for them to make changes in their life or to start something completely new and different, but once they have set a beginning, nothing can stop them. They are stable, consistent and precisely because of these reasons are successful in everything they start doing. It seems as if they get incorporated in it, they have enormous capacity to literally live with it and this brings them lasting success. Here the changes are rare and rather come from the outside, the person rarely undertakes them on his own initiative. He is waiting for change to come to him and then resists as much as possible.

When the variable quality is predominant life goes as the life of the grass. As you know the grass grows very fast in many places and it’s used for many things. These people are actually the most balanced in terms of skills, abilities, knowledge and activity. They have a balanced mind at the expense of their physical characteristics. They are generally most successful in anything that has practical application, where they can invest their intellect, talents, wisdom. They can use what they have, what is available to them. The eastern wisdom that happiness lies in wanting what we have is particularly true for people exactly where the variable quality is predominant. This change in this case, wanted or not, happen after an "invitation" from somewhere. Usually there is no personal initiative for a change, but there is also no resistance. Who knows what's waiting around the corner?

I will make an analogy of the three types and the way in which they approach changes. Imagine three people - Aries, Leo and Sagittarius, sitting over a cup of tea in the pleasant coolness of the summer garden. What would each of the three do, if he gets bored of the meeting? The Aries, the cardinal quality, would simply get up and leave in the middle of a sentence. Without being worried. He undertakes a change quickly, spontaneously, and sometimes completely indiscriminate. The Leo - fixed quality - would try to take the conversations in a pleasant for him direction. If all his attempts prove unsuccessful, he will wait for a sign that the subject may be ended. For example, a pause occurs, or someone goes to the bathroom. The Sagittarius - the variable quality - will try to adjust to participate most actively. And will leave only if one of the other three rose and left the meeting.

Now comes to the fore another question: To what extend a person is prepared in terms of skills, abilities, education, resources, external support for the changes that occur in his life? No matter what is the dominant quality. A change, even for a "fixed" person can be very smooth and quiet, although he will try to resist it as much as possible. As well as a change for a "cardinal" person who undertakes it personally may put him in a situation for which he is completely unprepared.
Preparedness of each person is defined by the lunar phase in which he is born. The ratio between the Sun and the Moon shows this phase. It’s called Moon phase because the moon "shows" it to us. When we observe the change in the shape of the moon, we actually see how the interplay between the sun and moon changes as the moon changes its shape according to the sunlight reflected by its surface.
Although our life is unthinkable without the Sun, the lunar phase is responsible for the ways in which a person accepts the changes and challenges, whether he is ready for them and how they affect him in a purely mental and emotional sence. Other times I have also mentioned that when talking about a personal perception and instinctive behavior, the moon is the more important light in the horoscope. For this same reason, again the Moon is at the heart of how well we are prepared for the changes in life.

There are three main types of "preparedness". I will give a parallel example of clarity. Solar zodiac sign is counted as the first. We have the Sun in the sign Capricorn. Therefore:

Capricorn - a sign 1
Aquarius - a sign 2
Pisces - sign 3
Aries - sign 4
Taurus - sign 5
Gemini – sign 6
Cancer - sign 7
Leo - sign  8
Virgo - sign 9
Libra - sign 10
Scorpio - sign 11
Sagittarius - sign 12

When the moon in the individual horoscope is placed at the signs 3, 6, 9 and 12 in respect to the Sun, one is always fully prepared for the coming changes in his life. No matter how they come and how he reacts to them. He has a full range of necessary skills, abilities, means, education and support necessary for this change. He is completely ready for the opportunity given to him (even if he doesn’t realize it) and change for him run smoothly, without major disruptions and hardships. The risk of failure in this group is minimal. In this example this is done when the moon is in the signs Pisces, Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius. If you note these are only signs of variable quality.

When the moon is placed in the signs 2, 5, 8 and 11 in respect to the Sun, one has an average degree of preparedness. He has a reasonable set of the necessary skills and abilities for the opportunity set before him. He has, however, some lacks that he fills additionally. So changes take place with minor disturbances. In the present example this is done when the Moon is in the signs Aquarius, Taurus, Leo and Scorpio. In this particular case – the signs are of fixed quality.

When the moon is placed in characters 1, 4, 7 and 10 in respect to the Sun, one is rarely prepared for the changes. In fact, if I say that he is not at all prepared for what awaits him around the corner, I would be more accurate. In practice, he hardly has any of the necessary skills, resources, abilities, education during the change itself. He is preparing for it on the run, in short terms, with much stress and pressure. In this group the risk of failure lurks at every turn. In the present example this happens when the Moon is in the signs Capricorn, Aries, Cancer and Libra. That is the signs of cardinal quality.

Therefore the best instinctive training have the people who are born with Sun in a cardinal sign and the Moon in a variable one. If the birth Sun is in a fixed sign, the most appropriate position for the moon in this regard is to be in a cardinal sign. And if the sun is in a variable star sign, then the moon is most suitable to be in a fixed sign. All this leads to the conclusion of the "golden mean" when we talk about readiness for the life changes.

Of course if you find yourself to be one of the people who are not well prepared for the changes this is no reason to put a "bad" label. Unpreparedness is not equal to "not good for anything." Often, especially for the people born at full moon, although they are unprepared even for the changes that they themselves initiate this remains well hidden. All the stress that they experience during the process of preparation (which is very dynamic, fast and extreme) is not visible to others. They seem to be able to cope with almost everything in a very short time. "The completeness and the light" of the moon in the individual horoscope is always a sing for "growth and adequacy."
