Immediately after his return to Athens, Karolos Papoulias issued a written declaration full of anger due to the events and the repeal of the military parade in Thessaloniki. "Things that happened today in Thessaloniki are an opportunity to stop and think: Are all those who have dimmed the national anniversary patriots? Are the ones who are crying the most the first? Are those who take the public space as their property democrats? How are we counting majorities? By participating in protest actions or in elections, which are held every four years according to the constitution? There is the right and its breach, there is righteous anger and its degeneration, there is a clear dividing line between a settled country and a social organization without rules and without a democratic basis. I make these remarks believing that our country’s emergence from the crisis is not only a matter of numbers but also a deeply political and cultural issue," states the presidential declaration.
