A day before the start of the final rounds of Euro Voice 2010, GRReporter talked to the Norwegian performer Bjorn Lislegaard. The nice Lislegaard is not only a musician but an artist too. Although he is a professional guitar player, he writes the music and the lyrics of his songs. Ambitious and with a searching soul, he draws inspiration from different cultures. He loves to travel around European countries and find their hidden "secrets." He does not come from a family of musicians but he is fond of music from early childhood. He has been playing the guitar and has been singing in the rock band Made in Norway for 11 years. Until one day he met his gentle mate, the Polish Delfina. It was her insistence he focused on vocals. Lislegaard is the performer and composer of the poignant song Wipe off the dust, dedicated to the passengers who died tragically in a plane crash in Smolensk this year.

After Bjorn won the largest number of votes in Norway in May here came the final rounds in Athens. He will present the track Up to the Hill in Athens that, as he says, reminds people that we should not be equal.

How are you feeling hours before the concert?

Bjorn Lislegaard: Okay. I am calm.

Tell us something about your song Up to the Hill.

Bjorn Lislegaard: The song is something between pop and rock music. The pace is slow.

Why did you choose it? Because it expresses yourself the best at the moment or because you think it has a chance to win?

Bjorn Lislegaard: No, I do not think it has a chance to win because this music is not popular in this region. Its sounds are Nordic, it has colder emotions. The feeling in the song is sad. But there is power in it... I have no plans to win. I just want to make a good performance. Maybe someone in Europe will hear my song and find me.

I see that you would rather like to be noticed?

Bjorn Lislegaard: Yes. I heard that there are many important persons from the world of music, from the recording business. I think they would like to know who I am and I would like to know who are they.

Are you professionally engaged with music?

Bjorn Lislegaard: Yes, I am a music producer, and also play the guitar professionally.

Is this your first participation in a music competition?

Bjorn Lislegaard: No, this is my second contest. The previous one was Karpathia Festival in Poland.

How long have you been doing music?

Bjorn Lislegaard: Since when I was 10. But I did not start my professional career very early. I have learnt music for a long time...

Maybe you come from a family of musicians...?

Boyrn Lislegaard: No, no. My family has no connection with music. I just found out that I have musical talent. I hadn’t done anything more serious until I met her (Delfina). She made me aware that I have a potential.

Delfina: Bjorn played 11 years in the Norwegian rock band Made in Norway. He was guitar player and vocalist. However, I insisted very much to develop the vocals.

Bjorn Lislegaard: These were the first steps. We had the potential to do something as a group from Poland to Europe, but the things didn’t go well and I decided to go on alone.

Do you write the lyrics and the music to them by yourself?

Bjorn Lislegaard: Yes, write them all by myself.

We wish you successful performance on the music stage in Athens!

Bjorn Lislegaard: Thanks!
