A loud explosion shook a tavern on the island of Salamina at 9.50 this morning. The cause of the incident is not known, the tavern was closed and there were no customers in it. Naftemporiki newspaper reported about 13 injured people wherea according to To Vima there were only 8. The condition of one of the injured is serious and he has been hospitalised. The other injured have been taken to the district’s hospital.

The Tavern is located opposite the church and most of the victims were probably passers-by. The blast occurred inside the restaurant and it was almost completely destroyed. Neighbouring buildings were also damaged. Two fire engines have arrived at the scene, assisted by a strong police presence. A trained dog is also helping the investigation.
