German cyclist Stefan Schafer pushed Greek Yannis Tamouridis during the 17th International Cycling Tour of Greece and won first place in Athens this year. Tamouridis lost the blue jersey from the German, when he fell and dropped his lead in the area of Delphi in the fourth stage of the marathon. The second place came to be bittersweet given that three days ago he was one step ahead of the other cyclists. Sports specialists commented unofficially that the German group has committed a gross violation of the rules and pushed the Greek athlete in the blind current of course.

"I believe that there was a violation on the 200 meters track in the area of Delphi, where the camera had no visibility. If a video report could be submitted from that part of the race, now the result would have been different," said the Greek cyclist. He stressed that his goal was victory, and to the question whether he is satisfied with second place Tamouridis said: "Second place is not entirely satisfying for me. We all know that winners are important in competitions, they are the ones remembered. Unfortunately the second remains second."

110 cyclists from 90 countries took part in the 17th International Cycling Tour of Greece and they were divided in 25 national teams. The event is organized by the Greek Cycling Federation with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports. The competition was held between April 14 and 17 of this year. During the first three days cyclists enjoyed good weather, but the last day of the race the sky opened and the last 130 km of the tour proved extremely difficult due to the heavy rain. The President of the Hellenic Cycling Federation Thanassis Terzis said he was extremely pleased with the race. "With such initiatives we want make all Greeks friends with the bicycle. It should become part of our lives and I am pleased to note that recently there is increased interest in cycling.”
