Greek parties’ headquarters are embarking on electioneering, and their activities are increasing exponentially.

Antonis Samaras, www.tovima.gr

New Democracy leader Antonis Samaras starts his tour of Greece in the Thessaloniki region on Saturday. The party leadership attaches great importance to rural population. However, big rallies are not on the cards.

Evangelos Venizelos, www.ethnos.gr

PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos will be in Sparta tomorrow, and on Sunday he will speak in Tripoli and Kalamata.

The name and the political programme of the new party of former Prime Minister Georgios Papandreou are also expected to be announced today. Reportedly, the organisation’s name and symbols will be deposited in court, and its political declaration will be officially presented in the centre of Athens.

Alexis Tsipras, www.eleftheria.gr

After its divorce with the Democratic Left of Fotis Kouvelis, SYRIZA’s headquarters is expected to deliberate eventual co-opting of former MPs from PASOK or the Independent Greeks, e.g. Theodora Tzakri, Rachil Makri, Chrisoula Giatagana, Markos Bolaris, Theodoros Parastatidis, Odysseas Voudouris, etc.

Tomorrow Alexis Tsipras will present SYRIZA’s overall political agenda. He is likely to call for debates with the Prime Minister and other party leaders.

Fotis Kouvelis, www.hitandrun.gr

After the shocking demise of its election marriage with SYRIZA, the Democratic Left is now discussing the possibility of a joint campaign with the environmentalists of Nikos Chrysogelos. DIMAR’s secretary general Thanasis Theoharopoulos is meeting Chrysogelos today.

The meetings of DIMAR’s Central Committee today and over the weekend are awaited with interest for possibly shedding light on the reasons that led to the suspension of ties with SYRIZA.

The atmosphere at DIMAR’s headquarters is rather tense, with the party being split both in its parliamentary group and across its chapters throughout Greece. Under such circumstances, DIMAR’s independent participation in the elections seems extremely difficult.
