Greek and Turkish fighters had been involved in a dogfight in the northern part of the Aegean Sea, as announced by Athens news agency. Four armed Turkish aircraft had violated the Greek airspace without providing the necessary flight information and without informing the Greek authorities. All four were intercepted by the Greek fighters and the agency speaks of a "spectacular dogfight."

Greek radars had also detected a Turkish military helicopter that had taken off from an aircraft carrier in the Aegean Sea.
Experts recall that this is the first such incident in two years.
