"On the other hand, the settlement of the major issue of keeping Greece in the euro zone is enabling us to submit proposals for a better management of the situation and to deal with the important problems of the economy, business and market," stresses the president of the National Confederation of Hellenic Commerce.

Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Thessaloniki: A cruel taxation and deep recession is coming

"The reassuring proposal of the government and the irreconcilable position of the partners are leading the country back into recession," says in turn Panagiotis Papadopoulos, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Thessaloniki. "After long months of negotiations between the government and creditors, with no substantial benefit to the Greek society at that, the difficult moment to pay the inflated bill has come. The new measures included in the proposal of the Greek government may be the result of pressure from creditors but they will sink the Greek economy into a real swamp, bringing exactly the reverse effects of what we all expect."

Panagiotis Papadopoulos warns that the increase of tax for companies from 26% to 29% will lead to a new wave of closed firms and, therefore, an increase in unemployment. He defines the government's intention to impose additional tax of 12% on larger companies with profits of over 500,000 euro as a punitive measure against them.

"Even at the last moment, the government must find equivalent measures that will not be directed against business because on the one hand it wants to support the efforts but on the other hand it has a resistance threshold  that was crossed long time ago. The proposed policies should bring a result, not lead the country to a life without hope and without tomorrow," the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Thessaloniki ends his statement.
