Rachel Weisz also spoke about Lanthimos’ talent that shone through in his previous films: "I saw ''Dogtooth'' and it overwhelmed me: I had not seen such acting, such utterly naturalistic and sincere filmmaking, in a universe I was unfamiliar with. I also wanted to end up in one of his universes. I pretty much liked the script, I had no idea how I’d do it, I lay back in his arms, he hypnotized us. I felt intoxicated by the love and the cruelty of a film that has some veritable things to say about our civilization; it is a barbaric world full of love."
