With each passing year Greeks are becoming increasingly dependent on the Internet, as shown by the aggregate data from 31 hotlines to the European Network of National Safer Internet Centres Insafe. According to them, excessive Internet use in Greece during the first half of 2015 reached 40%.

This percentage is 9% higher compared with the second half of last year. However, the average value for all of Europe reported an increase as well. From 5% in 2014 it reached 7% this year.

Privacy on the Internet is second in the rankings of heightened indicators. Internet user unawareness of how to protect privacy online, and especially as far as young people are concerned, reached 25%.

Unlike the first two indicators, online violence decreased by 3% compared with the second half of 2014 (from 19% to 16%). European averages for privacy online are 13% compared with 12% last year and 15% for online abuse that significantly declined from 21% in 2014.

"This fact proves in practice that childrens' awareness and training of adherence to a better attitude and respect for moral values must determine our behaviour online," states the report of the network.

It also reports a 2% increase of cases in which users provided information on their sexual orientation and intimate relationships and, simultaneously, low percentages of complaints about attempted contacts with children and young people by paedophiles (grooming), receiving e-mails with proposals for sex (sexting), sexual abuse, eating disorders, self-harming and suicide.

The vast majority of complaints received (77%) were made by phone, 19% by email and 3% in the chat. 70% of complaints were made by women and girls, 30% by boys and men, only 9% of them being minors. 15% of those who made complaints were teachers and 74% parents.
