Ms. Meni Maliori stressed that Greece is one of the countries where drug addicts wait the longest to be included in treatment programs and it is one of the four countries that have not developed programs for drug addicted prisoners. Ms. Maliori summarized the situation and said that those who use heroin in Greece usually began to use it at the age of 24 and ask help from the centre ten years later, when they are about 34 years old. The need was noted programs for alcohol addicts to be launched as there are no similar programs in Greece.
The results of the report, based on 2008 data, were presented Europewide and can be found on the website of the organization. The report is based on data for 2008 which all member states of the European Union and Norway sent to the European Centre.
