Niko Ago - a journalist of Albanian origin from Avgi newspaper and the website protagon.gr, drew attention to the escalation of racist violence. "Last Saturday, the extreme Golden Dawn held a rally. While walking, they beat any immigrant who stood in the way as well as any Greek who dared to defend them. But it was not covered by any media." He told of cases in which journalists paid kiosk owners to tell in the camera that they were robbed by immigrants and blamed many of the media for spreading hatred against them.

Journalists clearly opposed the establishment of detention centres for illegal immigrants and called them "concentration camps". They say this is just another election gimmick in direct contradiction to previous statements made by the same minister, who two years ago, spoke about the establishment of reception centres and a moderate immigration policy.
