The script is based on the book but there are some differences. There are viewers who say they like the series better than the book. What is your comment?
The only thing I can say is that I hope we were able to respond to the expectations of the audience and the producer Petros Boutos who assigned this so difficult and expensive project to us.
What is the reason for the success of the series according to you?
It is due to its high aesthetics, quality, the superb performances, and the absolute professionalism of the entire team that every day worked hard to achieve this and above all it is due to the ‘truth’ at all levels.
There are not many Greek TV series this year because of the economic crisis. How do you see the future?
The future scares me a lot because of the general crisis and the lack of resources that could be invested in such projects. There are no advertisers, television channels undergo a major crisis and investments in projects like this are risky. I really do not know what will be the outcome of all that is happening today. The only thing I can do is hope for better days.
According to the measurements, The Island attracted and kept over 3.5 million viewers in front of the TV screens. Each episode is worth 150,000 euros and the entire project costs 4 million euros which ranks it among the most expensive TV productions in Greece. Many foreign broadcasters have already declared their interest to buy the series and show it to local audiences. As for Spinalonga, the islet enjoys a great interest and the number of tourists to Crete who want to visit it is continuously growing.
