A battle took place early in the morning, around 4:30 a.m., on the border between the regions of Ioannina and Thesprotia. It was a continuation of last week’s shooting near Koniska, Etoloakarnania region. After a major police action, fugitive from the prison in Trikala Marian Kola was shot dead by the police near Vrosina village and his accomplice Ilir Koupa managed to escape.

The area of the shooting

According to early reports, the police found two dangerous criminals walking along the river in an attempt to enter Albania. The Albanians initiated a shooting in which a 25-year-old police officer from the anti-terrorism forces in Athens was injured in the leg. He was taken to hospital in Ioannina, and, according to surgeons, is in stable condition. After about 5 months of continuous persecution, it was confirmed that the criminal group has not left Greece. Reportedly, the fugitives had been hiding in the mountains of the Souli area for two weeks. They tried to move towards the region of Vrosina along a path that is used by illegal immigrants. According to police sources, a Kalashnikov, a hand grenade, cartridge-clips and food were discovered in Kola’s backpack.

Blockades for Ilir Koupa

The police action is continuing so that the police can locate and capture Koupa. According to police sources, he has probably been injured. Blockades are located in the districts of Ioannina and Thesprotia, bordering Vrosina. Traffic on the old highway Ioannina-Igoumenitsa has been stopped. At Thesprotia, the last police blockade was located near Neraida and movement of vehicles from there to Plakoti-Vrosina is prohibited. The situation is the same at Ioannina, where there is a blockage in the area of the former municipality of Moloson.

A profile of Marian Kola

Kola was known to the Greek authorities and the police and had always had a leadership role. After the cold-blooded murder of a policeman in Distomo and 25-year-old Katerina Zogali in Isthmia, it became clear that he was not afraid to shoot and kill. Since then, it had been a matter of honour for the Greek police to capture or neutralise him.

Since 2010, when he was arrested for bank robberies after the bloody robbery in Vyronas, he has constantly confirmed his tendency to murder. The Greek police officers who arrested him remember his words, "This is the first and last time you have caught me. Next time, either I will kill you, or you will kill me. "

"The group of the eleven" is neutralised

Two guards were injured in the organised escape of 11 people from the prison in Trikala on 23 May.

-Three fugitives were arrested several hours after the escape.

-Ermal Litar was arrested after the robbery of a supermarket in Peristeri in May.

-Another two fugitives committed a robbery at the National Bank in Larissa (it is believed that they have left Greece).

-Two were killed in a shootout with the police in Koniska, Etoloakarnania.

-Marian Kola was shot dead this morning.

-Two other accomplices of Kola are wanted - one of them is Ilir Koupa.
