The results of the autopsy of Michalis Aslanis were revealed today, but they neither confirmed, nor rejected the hypothesis of a suicide. Yesterday, the famous fashion designer was found dead in his home on 21 Skoufa Street in the Athens district of Kolonaki.

Forensic doctor Sotiris Bouziyanis said that the cause of Aslanis’s death was acute pulmonary insufficiency, which may have been caused by an overdose of sleeping pills. He categorically refuted the possibility that the designer died a violent death. What the exact cause of the death is will become clear after the results of specialised studies that are expected in about a month. The death occurred some 10 hours before his body was discovered by the director of his atelier.

Michalis Aslanis’s body was found on the floor with empty packs of sleeping pills around it, as well as with his handwritten diary. The diary describes the economic problems of the designer, but a suicide is not mentioned anywhere. The favourite of Greek celebrities who gave him the pet name "teddy bear" became a victim of the economic crisis and was forced to shift his studio in Plaka, under the Acropolis hill, for an apartment in Kolonaki. In several recent interviews, he blamed two of his employees of having robbed and destroyed him financially.

Michalis Aslanis’s funeral will be tomorrow in his hometown of Halkida, on the Island of Evia in a narrow family circle.
