At exactly 10:00pm started the show, in which the Greek song for Eurovision in Moscow was chosen. “This is our night” is the favorite one of the jury and the public – they chose it, in order to represent Greece this year in the 54th song competition “Eurovision.”
The show took place in the “Athinon Arena” hall, among the glamorous ladies with long black dresses and the charm of their casual dressed partners. Among the official guests – journalists, TV hosts, singers, actors, was also the director of the national Greek TV Johnnie Kalimeris.
The sisters Matildi and Betty Mangira were the presenters of the night and they appeared dressed in formal black dresses. They greeted the guests by saying that this year the participation organization of Greece in the competition is owed mainly to three persons, who always put their signatures under the hit songs! Those men are Dimitris Kondopoulos – composer of the three hit songs, Fokas Evangelinos – choreographer and Sakis Rouvas – of course, called a “talented singer, great person, tender father and good friend.”
Right after the short presentation by the Mangira sisters, Sakis came out on the stage and performed his first hit song from his album “Came.” This song is dedicated to his daughter, who was born few months ago. After that he sang another five songs from his last album.
After Sakis’ mini concert was over, the presenters had prepared journey in time, one retrospective, which took us from the first years of Eurovision to today. Interesting facts, performances of unknown hit songs from 50 years ago, disco-era with Israeli performers and as a whole the Mangira sisters made a successful try to introduce Eurovision’s history. Here is one useless information: The competition first took place in 1956 in Lugano, Switzerland and back then it was only transmitted over the radio. From 1957 it is shown on TV.
When the presentation of the competition’s history reach our current time, Kalomira came out on stage and she didn’t only perform songs from her new album but she also sang the refrain from “Secret combination,” which sent Greece on third place in 2008’s Eurovision in Belgrade. On the stage, Kalomira appeared as a glamorous soul r’n’b artist and bowled over ovations because of her incredible style and performance. The rappers Master Tempo appeared together with her, in order to give the r’n’b sound to her hit song from last year “My Secret Combination.”
Kalomira became famous when she participated in one of the first talent shows on Greek TV. Her biggest career success until now is the third place in last year’s Eurovision with her song “My Secret Combination” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKHdMMdel30 ).
After Kalomira, the stage was taken by this year’s Cyprian Eurovision representative – 16 year old Hristina Metaxa with her song “FireFly” – kind, charming and innocent.
Right after that, a quarter before midnight, the long awaited presentation of the songs-candidates started. Sakis Rouvas started with “Out of Control,” followed by “Right on Time” and at the end “This is Our Night,” to which the audience couldn’t resist and jumped, in order to follow the rhythm (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5wY-fcS39Q). “Out of Control” was performed with a bit of a cold mood but it had nice choreography. “Right on Time” was maybe the best out of the three songs but for Eurovision we all want Sakis to dance and to show his talent not only as a perfect singer but also as a perfect performer. This is why “This is Our Night” is the right choice, this is the only song, which shatters the gravitation laws and gives wings to Saki!
Right after the end of his performance, the Mangira sisters started the voting. It started a little bit after midnight and continued for 20 minutes and in the meanwhile the organizers made a mini Eurovision on stage! The guests of the night came out on stage and performed the songs, with which they will represent their countries.
The first one was the 20 year old British Jade, with her song “My Time” with music by Andrew Lloyd Weber. We also saw the performances of Andrea Demirovic from Cherna Gora with her song “Just get out of my life (Just get out of my bed…)”, this year’s favorite Hadize from Turkey with the hit R&B song “Dum Tek Tek” (Crazy about You), Belarus’ representative Peter Evtimov performed a little bit monotone rock-ballade “Eyes which never lie” and at the end Kiara from Malta came out and sung “What if we” and she offered Sakis to split the award this year.
When the voting was over, Mimis Plesas – the chairman of the jury and a famous composer got on stage in order to announce the result…100% “This is our Night”! From love for statistics – according to the survey, which was done online, “This is our night”, was ahead of the other two songs with 74.3%!
Illias Ledakis did a great job with the scenography and Fokas Evangelinos has taken over the directing and choreography. The Mangira sisters were under Giorgios Sefredakis’ design. The texts and the ideas for the night were by Giorgios Kapoudzidis.
Good luck in Moscow Sakis!
