Ship accident in Santorini

The ferry “Eolos Kenderis 2” hit the breakwater at the Santorini port at the moment when the crew was trying to dock and to tie the rope to a post on the port. At the moment of the accident, there were 26 passengers and 20 crew members on board. According to primary data, there are no victims. The only was mildly hurt in the shoulder was the second-in-command captain.


There is a strong 7 Beaufort wind on Santorini Island. The ferry belongs to NEL company and was completing the Siros-Paros-Naxos-Foleandros-Sikinos-Ios-Tiresia-Santorini-Anafi route. The incident happened around 09:30 pm last night. According to official statement by the Ministry of Trade Fleet, the port post has scratched the ship right under the line, which is sinks under water when the ship loaded. Right now, the ship is anchored outside the Santorini port, where it will be examined by the special commission, which will decide where it needs repairs or it could continue sailing.


During 2007, the luxury cruise ship Sea Diamond (on the photo) sunk at Santorini port. Two people – father and daughter drowned.
