Greece with five gold medals from Pescara

Greece got five gold and three bronze medals, as well as improved on two national records, at the sixteenth Mediterranean games in Pescara.

The first gold medal was received in rowing by Gianis Hristou in the single skiff discipline. The Greek rower finished with 7:03.05. The silver medal went to the Croatian Mario Vikich, and the bronze- to the Italian Romano Batista. The Cyprus representative, Valentin Sofokleus, took fifth place.

Right after, the second gold medal was won, this time at the no-steersman couple, the twins Nikos and Apostolos Gudulas, taking the first place with time 6:38:42.

Aleksandra Tsiavu got the gold medal with the women at single skiff. The champion finished with time 7:50.81. the silver was for Lora Milano and the bronze- for the Croatian Mirna Raile Brodanac.

Vasilis Polimeros was the forth Greek rower with gold medal. The Olympic champion was first at single skiff with time of 7:02.85.

Triandafilia Kalaboka and Hristina Giazitsidu concluded the gold series for the day with double skiff and time 7:12.63.

At the free fighting Panaiota Antonopoulu received a bronze medal, getting on third position in up-to-55-kiograms category after loosing in the semifinal to the Spanish Karima Sanchet.

Later in the afternoon, Evangelia Hrisi won a bronze medal in 59-kilograms category. The Greek athlete won against Hela Rabi from Tunis with 3-1 and got to position 3.

The couple Stamatia Fafaliu and Despina Papamihail reached semi-finals in the tennis tournament. The Greek team won against the Algerian couple Iasmine Alkema- Fatima and Zora Buabntelah and is going to compete with the leaders Tsagla Bugiukaktsai and Pemra Uzgen from Turkey.
