In extremely difficult conditions, people are trying to extinguish the fire which broke out overnight in the southern part of the island Euboea, which burned three houses.

A huge fire broke out Saturday night in the area of Aetos Karistos in the southern part of the island Euboea and in very short time it spread to a large area. Firemen are trying to limit the fire, which is near the village of Aetos, so that it does not extend to the villages Metohi and Teoskepasti. The fire has started from the region of Mekunida, and then it has headed threateningly towards Millie, Gravia, Pigadakia and Pelea Hora. The area where the fire was raging is forest and the flames have set on fire three houses in the village of Aetos. In Karistos municipality has been declared a state of emergency and in Aetos the electricity and water have been stopped since the fire burned the wooden columns of the electrical network.

Fire fighters are fighting the flames, but their task is even more difficult due to the strong winds that are blowing in the area. In puting out the fire are taking part 61 firefighters, 27 firefighting vehicles and 10 firefighting vehicles of the local town hall, as well as another 51 soldiers, and with the first sun rays in the campaign for putting out the fire took part also two aircrafts and two helicopters. Subsequently, airplanes and helicopters pulled out because it was not possible to throw water from the air due to strong winds.

Hundreds of visitors and residents of the area are leaving and the roads are still open for the passage of cars and regular routes and on ferries are still carried out.

At the same time three fires broke out also on the island of Crete - two in the are of the town of Rethymno and one in the southern part of the island in the region of Ierapetra. In the region of Ierapetra the fire does not threaten any urban areas, but is raging in the mountains to which the access for the firefighters is very difficult.
