Anna Psarouda-Benaki

Tanya Antoniou was elected head of the youth organization of PASOK in 1996. The First woman president of the parliament was Anna Psarouda-Benaki of New Democracy in 2004.

Another fortress which was impregnable for many years fell in 2002, when Dora Bakoyannis was elected mayor of Athens. In 2006, she also became the first female Minister of Foreign Affairs in Greece.

It is not known when women ministers of defence will be elected. It is also unclear when Greece will have a female prime minister.
