2010 worse for Greek industry

2010 will be tougher for the Greek industry due to the unpaid and deferred payments, which are crushing the Greek market, said chairman of the Industrialists Association in Northern Greece Nikos Pendzos. He offered a dialogue with all institutions, which have something to do with the problem. The manufacturing industry is suffering the most and an example was given with the aluminum industry, where orders have decreased this year by 40% and some factories have even closed down. Nikos Pendzos is proposing for the manufacturing industry to enter the center of Greek economy policies, because many people work there.

He approves of the new government’s decision to change the headquarters of the economy deputy ministers to Thessaloniki if they take the responsibility to make decisions. Regarding shutting down the ministries of Thrace and Macedonia Mr. Pendzos said that it would be better if this ministry is renamed to the ministry of regional development. To the question of how he evaluates the first acts of the new government, he said: “It is too soon to tell. We are waiting for their program.”

Nikos Pendzos said that the Industrialists Association is starting a series of work meetings, on which the industry and the regional development will be discussed, in order to define the problems in the manufacturing industry. Once they have defined them, then they will become the Association’s main proposals for the policies of the new government up to 2020. A meeting is arranged for November 2, on which will be discussed the food industry, drinks, construction and informatics, and for November 30 the topic will be development-innovation-outer investments. Present at those meetings will be top managers, scientists, and representatives of different ministries.
