The French tourist who is being treated in the Rio hospital since yesterday is in a critical condition, announced the Greek Ministry of Health. The 53-year old man diagnosed with the new flu virus is on a vacation on Greece and most probably carried the infection from France.
Meanwhile, medical authorities at Pirea port left 23 people from the cruiser Ocean Village 2 under quarantine in their rooms, because of their suspicious symptoms. 10 of them- 9 crew members and one passenger tested positively for the H1N1 virus. The tests of the rest 13 are negative but since they express all symptoms of the new flu, they were also left under quarantine. The ship is sailing under British flag and arrived at Pirea from the Turkish resort Kushadasi. Today afternoon it is supposed to sail to Rhodes. It has on board 1952 passengers and 614 crew members.
This is the fifth case of H1N1 carriers arriving on a ship at the port in Pirea. As in previous cases, representatives of the municipality authorities and medical workers get on board in order to check the conditions in which the patients are being treated, as well as what kind of medicines are present on board so everything missing can be delivered. Treatment of the patients and localizing of the infection are conducted in accordance with the World Health Organization procedures.
