The number of uninsured Greeks, reaching 2.5 million, is like a clockwork bomb that poses a threat to hospital budgets, and the whole National Healthcare System.
As Ta Nea newspaper says, according to official data of the Ministry of Health from January to July this year, the cost of treatment of citizens on benefits in all public hospitals in the country (and, unofficially, of the uninsured people, because they were not entitled to free treatment at the time) amounted to € 65.8 million.
Given also that the National Health System does not refuse treatment even to uninsured and poor foreigners, for the same period hospital costs reached the impressive amount of € 72.3 million.
