The Greek coast guard and the passenger ferry Blue Star 1 rescued 61 migrants at sea, about 4 miles away from the southeastern part of the island of Lesvos.
The operation began early this morning when the crew of the ferry that sails from the island to the port of Piraeus on a regular basis noticed a boat with dozens of people at sea.
According to the original information, some of the people were in the water that was filling the overloaded boat.
The ferry immediately sent a rescue boat that transported 35 people to it and a patrol boat of the Greek coast guard that was urgently sent to the place of the accident rescued another 26 people.
The service reports that there has been no evidence of missing persons so far. The investigation of the case will continue once the rescued immigrants are transferred to the island of Lesvos.
Meanwhile, the ferry Eleftherios Venizelos arrived at the port of Piraeus, transporting 2,492 immigrants and refugees from Lesvos to mainland Greece.
