With a record number of participants starts this year the Aegean Regatta. From August 22nd to August 28th 105 sailing boats will set sail in Greece. Besides Greek, in the regatta will participate also 7 foreign boats. These are "Βony Staf" and "Leader" from Russia, "Αria di Βurrasa" from Italy, "Τotemic" from England, "Αlmira" and "Anerada" from Cyprus and "Windwalker" from Bulgaria. The race begins from the island of Thassos, and the final destination is Molivdos, the island of Lesbos. Way stops the boats will make in Samothrace and Limnos. In addition to the record number of participants this year the regatta can be highly praised for the female presence. 5 of the boats in the race have women captains.

The Bulgarian sailing boat Windwalker has for skipper Miroslav Stanev from Balchik Marine Club. Windwalker can be proud with its attendance in the most prestigious international regattas. This year Miroslav Stanev became the winner of the international Kaliakra Cup 2010 in Class IRC. For the 2010 racing season the Bulgarian has a really ambitious schedule. After the success he had in the beginning of June in Kaliakra Cup, he plans a lot more participations in international regattas. In the beginning of September he will be competing in SIROS RACE, and a little later he will start in two of the most prestigious Turkish regattas - MARMARIS INT. RACE WEEK and RACE WEEK - BODRUM. The regattas are held from October 23rd to October 29th and November 3rd to November 7th respectively.

Aegean Regatta was held for the first time in 2001. Its initiator is Nikos Sifunakis, currently Deputy Minister of Transport, infrastructure and networks of Greece. The regatta has a huge success and in the past, the event was even broadcasted by media such as CΝΝ, ΒΒC and Sky Εurope. The tenth anniversary became a strong motiv for some of the best sailing boats in Greece to take up starting positions on Sunday. Two of the 105 boats are making a "historical" race. In 1992 they participated in the celebration of the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's journey.

As part of celebrating the tenth anniversary of the regatta sponsors have prepared also a number of cultural events. So this year the "fighting with the wind" will be accompanied among others by a concert in the Ancient Theatre of the island of Thassos and a music night on the beach of Kamariotissa on the island of Samothrace.
