I appeal to the Minister of Finance Evangelos Venizelos not to force the law-abiding companies to close down."
The company Milomel Hellas decided to proceed to the stop loss
Applebees did not survive
After 15 years of successful presence in Greece, the restaurant chain Applebee's closed down its activity. "Surprisingly, we were told that the restaurants closed down. During the stock taking the employer said he won’t pay any of the accumulated liabilities and compensations.
We are desperate. We decided to proceed with job retention because for the last two months we have not received salaries", said workers there and in the facility in Thessaloniki employees are already trying to keep it functioning themselves working with discounts. A difficult task, since stocks will soon run out and they will have to purchase and there is also a legal vacuum with the representation of American company in Greece.
The company Milomel Hellas, which owns the exclusive rights to use and develop the brand name of Applebee's for Greece and the Balkans, according to recent published accounts, does not have discouraging results, but apparently the management has concluded that the crisis will not easily allow the company to recover, so they decided to stop the losses. Five years ago Applebee's was considered to have reasonable prices for the type of food they offered (casual dining), but now the nearly 35 euros per person as much as a dinner costs in these facilities can hardly come out of the pockets of consumers.
In December 2008 during the events in Athens, the facilities in Kipseli and Monastiraki were destroyed to the ground. The company reported in its balance sheet a loss of 0.87 million euros and opened again only the restaurant in Kipseli.
Sales in 2009 reached only 9.5 million euros as compared with 12.2 million euros in 2008 and the end result was a loss of 0.92 million euro. In the company were employed about 150 people. There are two restaurants in Thessaloniki and four in the Attica region (Kefalari, Glifada, Blvd "Aleksandras" and F. Negri).
