Today Greek farmers start protesting across the country with the following three main demands:
Cancellation of the mandatory book-keeping for small- and medium-sized farms,
Acceptance of a tax-free threshold amounting to 40,000 euro per farm family, which will increase by 5,000 euro for each child in the family,
Finding a solution to the loans that the farmers have obtained but cannot pay.
At first, the farmers will park their tractors in the village squares and at the end of January, they will organise blockades of highways. If the government does not meet their basic demands as well as some additional ones related to the producers of specific crops, the agricultural organisations threaten to hold mass protests "from Evros to Crete." On Friday, the farmers will protest in front of the tax offices in the country and on 1 February, they will organise a large demonstration in Thessaloniki during the Agrotica exhibition.
