For another year in a row, Athens is preparing to celebrate the World Cities Day. It is a UN initiative that aims to focus the interest of the international community on global urbanization and its contribution to sustainable urban development worldwide.

To celebrate this day, the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises SETE will turn Athens into a scene of a series of events and celebrations.

Between 10:30 am and 1:00 pm, Greek breakfast will be served in the art space SIX D.o.g.s. Coffee and homemade cookies will await, until early afternoon, those who wish to try them. The Greek breakfast is an initiative of the Greek hoteliers aiming to present to guests specialties from different regions in the country. Thus, they want to promote traditional Greek recipes for pies and other specialties, as well as products typical of each region.

Meanwhile, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, professional dancers will present traditional Greek dances on the pedestrian Dionisiou Areopagitou Street at the foot of the Acropolis.

Immediately thereafter, a big open-air party with music and dance from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s will start on Ermou Street, the most popular shopping street in Athens.

Visitors to Athens have always admired the unique light of the city. During the Cities World Day, those wishing to enjoy the sunset can do so on the Athenian Riviera, drinking a cocktail in one of the restaurants of the coastal establishments in Alimos between 4:00 pm and 5:30 pm.

The celebrations will end with a big party, which will take place on the first floor of one of the city clubs in Athens. The venue is restaurant Fouar on 72 Mitropoleos Street and Christodoulou Street.

Those wishing to join it will receive a bracelet at Athens airport, in hotels and at certain places in the city centre. They will serve as a "ticket" for access to the various events during the day. Bracelet holders will be able to visit museums free of charge and will have a discount in some of the popular bars and restaurants in Athens.
