The bank holiday in Greece will be extended by two days, until Wednesday inclusive, said president of the Association of Greek Bankers Louka Katseli. The capital controls under which the daily limit for withdrawals from ATMs is set at 60 euro will be extended until Wednesday as well. Greeks will be able to open bank safes after the bank holiday. Yesterday, Deputy Minister of Finance Nadia Valavani announced that they would be able to take everything from the safes with the exception of cash.
Katseli said that the extension of the bank holiday was associated with the European Central Bank, the governing council of which had not yet decided whether it would extend the emergency liquidity provided to Greek banks. The extension of the bank holiday will enter into effect with a ministerial decision and it will be the first that new Minister of Finance Efklidis Tsakalotos will issue.
According to Bloomberg, however, the European Central Bank considers that Greek banks have sufficient liquidity until Wednesday.
