Bare shoulders, corsets with pearls and skirts of plicated satin will wear brides in 2011. Decorations of flowers and veils of hand-embroidered lace are part of this season’s collections which can not supplant completely clean tulle. These are the trends showed by two of the biggest fashion houses in Greece for wedding fashion ZOLOTAS and SPOSA GROUP at the New Life - EXPOWEDDING exhibition. It is held in mid-January every year and allows future newlyweds to see various suggestions for clothing, catering and other services for the special day.

The dresses presented vary by length according to the preferences of the bride and offer a wide range of more classic or bolder designs, depending on personal taste. Lace gloves and fluffy sleeves known from the past certainly have no place at the altar this year, according to the Greek designers.

ZOLOTAS fashion house presented its vision of how a woman should look during one of the most important days of her life attaching greater importance to the free forms than the classic idea of a bride in a pannier. More interesting, however, are their suggestions for bridesmaid dresses that seem inspired by the summer, the sea and freedom. Colourful sheer fabrics in oil colours, in iridescent shades of blue or sunny yellow dominate. Bare shoulders and light scarves that look like a warm breeze have a feeling of ease and nonchalance. It is worth noting that this type of dresses is very practical, especially in times of crisis. They can easily be worn at a dinner or a party and will not be hung in the closet after the wedding.

SPOSA GROUP’s bridal designs presented vapoury corsets and asymmetrical skirts which make any young girl feel like a modern Cinderella at least for a day. Femininity is the main feature of their collection this year. Deep necklines, tight waists and gorgeous skirts decorated with flowers and white pearls make you feel like in fairytale and even a bit nostalgic for times gone by. For the more daring brides there are miniskirts with heavy trains starting from the waist down, however. Veils or long skirts hand embroidered at the edges compensate the simpler designs. Practical brides can take advantage of the suggested dresses of two parts – when the church ceremony ends the bribe can tear off (literally) the heavy pleated skirt. A cute white mini dress appears in which she can dance, jump and freely enjoy life in her wedding day.
