The Bulgarian Andrey Zhekov or the American Jonathan Winster will take the position of a setter in the volleyball team of Olympiakos. The two players are the most serious candidates for membership in the squad of the white-reds after the German Simon Tiser left the team. Following the example of most foreign players who left the country Tiser moved to Turkey. So for Olympiakos the alternatives are currently Bulgaria and America.
Until recently Zhekov played in team of Patras. After one not very successful season for the team, however, he as well as most of the key players from the team withdrew. The Bulgarian setter is currently free, and the amount he requested from the white-red team is not too high. The management of Olympiakos is seriously considering the option for a contract and has stopped its attention on the 30-years old player. Despite the disappointments of the last period of the player from Slavia and Levski Siconco can boast with a good career. In Bulgaria's national team he plays since 1998. During the World Cup in Japan in 2006 he won a bronze medal. Bronze medal he also won at the World Cup in Japan in 2007 and in the European Championship in Turkey in 2009.
The another name, which are considering the management of Olympiakos is that of Jonathan Winster. The American setter is considered one of the most reliable players in volleyball. Since onwards he participates in the American national team. In the 2008-2009 season he was playing in the French Tursua and last year in the German RWE Volleys Bottrop. To the proposal made by Olympiakos the American responded positively. Which of the two names will appear on the field, however, will become clear after a few days.
As a player of Olympiakos is now considered also another American. He's Jason Jablonski, a volleyball player from the national team of America. 25 years old Jablonski is known to the Greek fans because of playing in AEK in 2008. His name on the sports arena is associated with great success. During the last America's Cup he was recognized to be MVP. Jablonski will play for one year wearing the colors of Olympiakos.
