Greece is represented by 24 members in the European Parliament, out of the total of 785 representatives of all the member countries of the European Union. The number of representatives in the Parliament is determined by the country’s population. This year’s elections were the first occasion to include the name of a Bulgarian citizen in the ballots of one of the two big Greek parties.

41 year old Blagorodna Filevska is employed as a journalist, but has a degree in history from the Kliment Ohridski University in Sofia. Filevska is on the twentieth position in the ballot paper of Georgios Papandreou’s Socialist party, out of a total of 22 candidates.

PASOK’s ballot paper is headed by 48 year old economist Georgios Papakonstantinou and journalist Silvana Rapti who is a member of the political council of the party since 2006.

In the Euro Parliament, Greece is represented by eight members of the party in opposition – PASOK, eleven members from the ruling party New Democracy, three members from the Greek Communist Party, one member from the left coalition SIRIZA and a member of the radical right party LAOS.

Greek Members of Parliament are allocated in the Euro parties as follows: eleven belong to the European People’s Party – European Democrats (EPP-ED), which has 275 members in total. Eight Greek MP’s take part in the Party of European Socialists (PES), which is represented by 217 members from all-around Europe. There is one member of the Independence/Democracy (I/D) group, and four Greek representatives are part of the European Untied Left – Nordic Green Left Party (GUE-NGL).

The European Parliament represents 496,5 million people, which is the total population of the 27 member countries of the European Union. The GRReporter.info team wishes luck and fortune to the Bulgarian candidate-member of parliament – Blagorodna Filevska for the following elections.
