The open-air cinema in Argyroupoli Municipality
Via the Food Bank, which the municipality of Elliniko–Argyroupoli opened in December 2011, invaluable help is being offered to dozens of citizens in need. According to the municipality's data, the number of families supported is growing daily: up to June 2012, the total number of registered families was 180.
It is marvellous that in this time of crisis, practical help for the families in need is combined with cultural events, namely film-shows in the open-air cinema in the Park of ex-129 Air Wing (next to Praktiker and parallel with the Streets of Vouliagmenis, Dragatsaniou and Praxitelous, near the 4th stop in Argyroupoli), organized by the municipality of Elliniko–Argyroupoli's Cinema-club. Admission is free.
In the open-air cinema one can find a "Basket of Solidarity" in which essential goods will be gathered for the Food Bank, while in the meantime quality movies will be shown from the Greek and the world film production.
"The reverberation of this initiative will practically help the efforts of the municipality authorities to support our citizens, who are affected the most by the deep economic and social crisis in the country", note from the municipality of Elliniko–Argyroupoli's Cinema-club. "Their very survival depends on our help and solidarity".
The goods, gathered in the "Basket of solidarity", are mainly long shelf life food products (sugar, olive oil, tomato juice, tins of food, legumes, flour, rice, pasta, coffee, etc.), as well as cleaning products and sanitary materials (shampoo, washing powder, toothpaste, sanitary pads, nappies for babies and incontinence pads for elderly people, etc.)
