Crimes have been committed in the state broadcaster ERT for years

I do not know whether the salaries you are asking me about are valid or not. I too have read in various publications that they are very high but they are paid to people who have not been appointed like the colleagues who have signed permanent contracts or others, like me, who have temporary contracts. Our salaries did not exceed the amounts set in the memoranda of economic aid to Greece.

The colleagues working in ERT have been in the television studios in Athens and Thessaloniki for two days already and their live broadcasts continue. Objectively speaking, their viewpoint and that of their interlocutors is one-sided. How would you comment on this?

It is very hard for me to support one side or the other because I worked in ERT for eight years, until February this year. However, I want to be correct and honest, because things have already reached a point at which sincerity is everything. Frankly speaking, we have to admit that there was an unprecedented mismanagement in ERT but it is wrong to say that it existed only for a couple of years. The situation in ERT has lasted for many years now. The phrase that I personally use to describe it is "a crime for years" and it started a few decades ago.

Therefore, the people who are interested in the developments in ERT and in its mismanagement have to consider them over the years. And if some of the people working there were involved in the situation simply because money was not a problem in the past, they will have to think over the fact that everyone bears a small part of the responsibility. I mean that if the healthy unit in ERT - journalists, technicians, administrative staff, musicians and artists – had been trying all these years to remove all cancerous cells which had settled there in different periods of time, the situation would have been much different today.

And because like many other people I do not like the black screen that has replaced ERT’s channels, I hope that a new public television channel will be opened under the best possible conditions and as soon as possible because for me, it is a very strong and stable factor in informing the public.
