The Cyclades that are the iconic Greek summer destination will be the honoured destination of this year's culinary festival "Gastronomy Days, Destination of Origin: Greece". It will take place between 9 May and 11 May in the building of the Benaki Museum on Pireos Street in Athens and in fact, it will be quite different from the traditional trade fairs of agricultural products, where visitors have the opportunity of just tasting and buying some traditional Greek products. "We decided to present the entire culture of Greek gastronomy through innovative ideas as well as to provide editors and bloggers in the field of good food with scope for exchange of views," says Yiannis Gourdzelas, director of the organizing company Reason to.
During the three days of the festival, visitors can watch and participate in various events such as tastings, discussions and meetings with gastronomes who will present the age-old tradition in the food of the most famous group of the Mediterranean islands. Dozens of chefs, gastronomes, journalists, representatives from the islands, local businessmen, companies and networks will undertake to draw a culinary map and make famous the culinary tradition of the Aegean Sea.
Last year's edition of the festival acquainted around 5,800 visitors with the traditional cuisine of Limnos Island. "Our main goal is to make the festival an annual event of the Greek culinary culture and focus on the most representative themes and products," says Gourdzelas. In his opinion, this year the interest in the festival is already significant and the number of visitors is going to be higher.
In addition, the first edition of the first Greek film festival dedicated to taste, gastronomy and cuisine will start in parallel. Under the slogan "A Spoonful of Inspiration", Athens International Culinary Film Festival will present a representative menu of delicious stories from around the world (Greece, USA, UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, France and China).
The festival will feature the world premieres of the Spanish film by director Ivan Minambres "Nerua Guggenheim Bilbao - A Journey to the Essence" and of the new Greek black comedy by Dimitris Piatas "Pandemic - All in One".
The first conference on the gastronomy of the islands in the Aegean Sea will take place within the frameworks of the culinary festival and on the initiative of the Chamber of Commerce of the Cyclades. It aims to show to the public, within a single gastronomic destination, both the culinary art of the islands and the objects that compose it.
