The Hellenic Technical Chamber and Notaries Association asked for the immediate completion of the revision and update of the National Cadastre of Greece. According to the work group, set between the two organizations, 2016 has to be the final deadline for the completion of the official inventory and registration of public and private real estate properties in the country.
Representatives of the Working Group explained the critical need of full and detailed inventory of public property, and proposed creation of regional cadastral offices (land committees) to facilitate the registration process, so that by 2012 the collection of basic information can be completed. Another proposal made by the Chamber presented the creation of an electronic register that will facilitate the use of information gathered and to create new easier procedures for updating the existing forest maps. In order to realize the outlined plan for development and finalization of the National Cadastre of Greece, the Hellenic Technical Chamber notes that the State should allocate €1.7 billion.
The initial plan for establishing a National Cadastre of the country has been awarded to the Technical Chamber of Greece in 1994, and in 2005 the Chamber has issued a work plan for land inventory. In the period from early studies to the issuance of the work plan in Greece only 17% of the land and property were described in detail under the laws and regulations and by 2012 this percentage is expected to increase to 40%. According to the Committee the introduction of uniform national cadastre will help prevent violations of the law, including cases of illegal construction on forest land damaged by fires.
