Baked apples

One of the easiest and most delicious ways includes baked apples. They smell of cinnamon and are healthy and delicious, whether you serve them with ice cream or just plain. The preparation is very easy, but it takes time - at least an hour or an hour and a half for baking. Peel them, core them and remove their seeds, but keep the apples whole. Put them in a large saucepan, put a teaspoon of sugar and a little rum inside them, as well as a few drops of lemon juice and sprinkle them with cinnamon. Put them in the oven until tender.

Apple pie

This is a classic favourite recipe that has many variations. Whether you prefer the apple grated, cubed, or prepare the recipe with apple crumble, it is certain that it will drive you crazy with its aroma. Add lots of cinnamon and cloves, and enjoy it with a scoop of ice-cream or a cup of steaming hot coffee.

Red Beet Salad with apples and herrings

This is a very easy and original variation of our favourite salad with beets recipe enriched with herrings. Traditionally, this salad is served on New Year's Eve in Germany, but it can also become a starter for your everyday meals. You need 304 g herring fillets, 1/2 kg boiled beets, 1/2 kg mixed pickles, 1 sour apple, diced, 3-4 tablespoons of mayonnaise and ½ pot yogurt. You can also add 2 cloves of garlic.

Waldorf salad

This salad originates from America and is extremely tasty. It is prepared with green apples, celery, lettuce and lots of mayonnaise. It dates back to 1890. it was first made at the Waldorf Hotel in New York, from where it takes its name. Many people add roast chicken or turkey and turn it into a main dish.

Soup with carrots and apples

This is a lovely combination of mixed carrots, apples and potatoes. It has a slightly sweet taste. It is best served with blue cheese. You will need 1 kg carrots, 2 sour apples, 2 tablespoons butter, 2 litres vegetable stock, a little lemon and a few drops cayenne pepper, if you like spicy food.

Apple pancakes

Everybody knows and loves American pancakes and envies movie characters that have breakfast in bed with pancakes with maple syrup and pecans. However, these can be eaten not only for breakfast but also at other times of the day. One of the recipes suggests adding grated apples to the batter, and the result is delicious. You will need: 2 eggs, a cup and a half of milk, 2 cups flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 3 tablespoons sugar, 2 grated apples and a pinch of salt.

Pork with apples

The sweet and sour flavour of apples goes well with meat, particularly pork. Therefore, restaurants often combine meat with apple sauce. In order to prepare pork with apples, it is better to choose fillet, which is less fatty. For 1 kg of meat you will need 2 sliced onions, caramelized in 1 tablespoon sugar, 3 apples and 1/2 litre of apple juice.

Strudel

The favourite pastry from central and northern Europe - its basic version is with apple filling but you can try it with other fruits, too. It originates from Hungary, but is also very common in Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland. The word strudel is German and means whirlwind. The name comes from the shape of the cake, which resembles a jelly-roll cake. This is a pie with apple filling and cinnamon sprinkled with powdered sugar. To prepare it, you need 1 package phyllo (filo) pastry, 5 apples, 3 tablespoons butter, 5 tablespoons brown sugar, cinnamon and powdered sugar.

Apple muffins

Our favourite cupcakes can be prepared in countless variations. One is with apples. You will need 2 cups flour, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 2 eggs, 1 package vanilla, 2 grated apples and a pinch of cinnamon.

Cider

Do not forget the wonderful apple juice which ferments and becomes a delicious drink that resembles beer. You can combine it with your lunch and dinner, or drink it instead of beer.
