The Greek pop music diva is often compared to Victoria Beckham because they are both great singers married to football players. Exuberant and easy going as Greeks are Despina Vandi reveals the truth about her life in an interview for the magazine L ‘Officiel.

We used to see lavish ballets and fantastic scenery around her on stage but she changed the concept of her performance a few months ago. She already faces the audience alone with no further pomp but only with a group of musicians.  She raises the mood performing recitals and  people no longer go to a bouzouki club to listen to her but to Vox. Despina says she wants the people to come in jeans and feel comfortable paying lower ticket price. This will make them relax and they will not think they have spent the money for the weekly supermarket shopping to come to listen to me, says the Greek singer.

"I really take the whole performance on my shoulders and I was afraid to try something similar. It is very difficult to say to yourself “I will try something new” when you have been moving in the groove for years and people got used to what you have been doing. Either you will be in real trouble, or you will succeed ... I was worried at one point this year that I will not handle it, but there comes a time when you need to do something different," says she for the L'Officiel magazine.

The beauty of the Greek pop scene also reveals that her children still do not realize how famous their mother is. Her little girl who is in the first grade has already begun to suspect that her mother is famous because it often happens to stop them on the streets to ask her for autograph. In connection with the image created by the media, Despina Vandi says she has learned to distinguish between things connected with her Vandi features and those of Despina in order not to become a prisoner of the image coming out from magazines covers and television.

"We learn and change our philosophy of life in times of crisis, we attach the things the importance they had before. We were a little lost in all that surrounded us for years. So, now maybe we should look for the values that we have forgotten," says the singer about the economic crisis. "It doesn’t matter now who makes the first performance or whether your name is written in larger letters on the posters" recognizes she and adds that she is ready to appear on stage with colleagues from her class, although this is not news because she has cooperated with the majority of the most famous Greek singers.

The singer says that she was raised in a small provincial town - in Kavala. She also confesses that she will never forget her origin and that nothing comes for free. "I was like a soldier when I was younger. My mother wanted me to help her home as I grew and became more skillful. I helped her with ironing, I made the beds and at the age of 10 I did things that you do when you are 20. I can not live in chaos."

The Greek pop diva is married to one of the football stars - Demis Nikolaidis, but their relationship began 12 years ago. According to her, the most important thing that connects them with Demis is that each of them has managed to keep the personality of the other despite their marriage and their two children and despite the everyday trifles and the quarrels about them. "We have never had major differences with respect to important things in life. We have the same opinion on them. Furthermore, we always leave room for the other to take a breath. If Demis wants to go out with his friends one night out, it's his right. I also go out with my friends. We do not suppress each other. Each of us has kept the work and life outside our family life," tells she about the relationship with her husband.
