For those who will spend the holidays in Athens, www.clickatlife.gr website offers seven affordable tips that will allow us to stay within the holiday budget, without depriving ourselves of the holiday brilliance. The tips are particularly useful for godparents who usually spend a lot during Easter in Greece. The website recalls that money does not impress children, and that we can give them joy without having to spend a fortune for it.
1. Easter candle
The prices of the candles sold in shops and the lack of taste in them have admittedly reached incredibly high levels, so you have plenty of reasons to make a candle yourself for your godson or goddaughter. Use as inspiration the favourite cartoon of the child, his or her favourite colour or fictional character to make a unique Easter candle. Children do not understand if you paid more money or less to buy them a candle, they will enjoy the gift itself even if it costs nothing.
2. Avoid going to extremes
Do not buy your godson or goddaughter super expensive shoes that they will outgrow within 3 months, do not buy an expensive toy that the child will disassemble into its various parts in no time, and do not buy the collector's edition of their favourite fairy tale, because they will probably tear it into pieces by the end of the week. Finally, ask the child's parents about their true desires in order to buy them something that will really please them.
3. Easter decoration
Festive decorations help set the mood for the upcoming celebrations but since the change of mood does not require a significant budget, do not spend a lot for Easter garlands and plastic eggs in baskets. There are cheaper options that will not cost you much and you will not feel anxious especially if they end up in the hands of children. Decorate eggs using cheap and health-friendly methods. Make sure the children are involved in decorating and painting the eggs, because this will be the most valuable gift for them.
4. Easter table
This year, try to look at the Easter table, the biggest concern of every housewife, in a new light as well as to enjoy it along with your guests. First, consider the menu in advance and take advantage of the promotions in supermarkets and the neighbourhood butcher's. Then specify the number of guests to avoid cooking for people who will not come and invite as many people as your pocket and home can "endure".
Do not hesitate to do something different this year and organize an Easter breakfast, which will cost a lot less than the Easter dinner, as the motive of these gatherings is to see your loved ones, rather than for the food.
5. Stay within budget
Resist the festive atmosphere and make sure you stay within your budget. If you want to organize a family lunch or dinner, suggest to your guests that they bring their specialty instead of offering you useless gifts.
If they all contribute to the holiday, you will not exceed your budget and you will use your Easter bonus (if you are still among those who receive one ...) as intended, for some bills or for tutoring children. It is up to you to turn the Easter holidays into a pleasure rather than into another burden on your pocket.
6. Shop now for... next year!
Take advantage of the promotions offered by all seasonal shops after the Easter holidays and buy a festive tablecloth, Easter decorations and other products at much lower prices. Even though we know about the big discounts offered by these shops, most of us usually overlook them after the holidays. However, as the holidays will come next year too, foresight is never useless. So check what you needed this year and exclude it from the list for the next.
7. Do not forget the meaning of holidays
Finally, let us not forget that holidays are not a reason to spend money we do not have. Holidays, although their meaning has changed over the years, are not just another consumer tradition, they are an opportunity to meet with loved ones, exchange greetings and learn new things about them, because during the rest of the year we are so preoccupied with our daily problems that we forget to be human. Holidays are a chance to remember this!
