For a third successive year the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Dora Bakoyanni has found a place in the prestigious Forbes Magazine “ 100 World’s Most Powerful Women of 2008”. This year the first diplomat of Greece ranks 78,
preceded by the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel. The US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice tops the list, the NY senator Hillary Clinton ranks 28 and Queen Elizabeth II ranks 58.
The magazine says she is the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, retaining her position after the reforms in the Cabinet of Karamanlis following September 2007 Election. She is also a former Athens Mayor. According to the magazine some of her major achievements are the ratification of Lisbon Treaty by Greece, her attempts to revive the dialogue with the Middle East and the support for the French initiative of a union about the Mediterranean.
