Early elections put to the test the optimism of Greek voters

The approaching political autumn in Greece does not bode appeased passions, on the contrary. Therefore, we have sought the opinion of our readers and asked them, "What do you expect to happen in Greece in September?" The results suggest a serious dose of pessimism, which, alas, has its reasons. In view of the already announced date for early elections, another issue is on the agenda and it is "Are the Greeks tired of elections and empty promises?"

The analysis of the poll starts with the Bulgarian page of our website, the readers vote on which reflects the uncertainty felt in Greece and perhaps adds slightly timid optimism. 33% of readers say that they expect nothing and that Greece will continue to drag on the bottom. If we look through the eyes of the Bulgarian community in our southern neighbour, some of the readers who have taken part in the poll being part of it, we can explain this pessimism. The option in which 31% of respondents have proved to be right to expect early elections ranks second. New elections always bring a note of optimism. About 24% of our readers believe that the autumn will bring quietly implemented reforms and new tranches of billions of euro. This forecast has not been verified as correct, but here we can add a touch pessimism and suggest that this group of readers do not expect any change, even in the case of a possible change of government. 12% expect anti-austerity riots and social unrest.

The pessimistic tone continues on the English page of GRReporter. About 42% of respondents believe that Greece has sunk so much that it will probably continue to drag on the bottom. As on the Bulgarian page, the expectation of elections comes next and ranks second with 37%. The disintegration of the ruling SYRIZA party is the reason for this group of readers to properly forecast early elections. The option that the former government will quietly continue with the commitments and promises of reforms in return for financial aid packages ranks third with 15% of the votes. Only 7% expect anti-austerity social unrest and riots.

The votes of respondents on the Greek page of our website are very interesting. 50% of them expect elections and here we can add that this is also a sign of hope for change. About 30% of respondents however believe that the country will continue to drag on the bottom, without any prospects for positive development in the near future. 15% of readers expect the former government to continue the policy of obedience and enforcement of reforms in return for financial assistance amounting to billions of euro - nothing new in the status quo, despite the loud slogans that brought SYRIZA to power at the beginning of the year. Surprisingly, the Greeks, who usually fight for their rights and who are often given as an example in Bulgaria, are quietest in terms of forecasts for social unrest and riots. Are the Greeks tired already? Have the endless financial dramas, the latest spate of political disappointment s and the realization that forthcoming generations will have to pay the debts broken the Greek spirit? Share your comments below the article.

Our latest poll is associated with the fate of SYRIZA the disintegration of which will have a huge impact on the results of early elections and asks, “What are the consequences of the collapse of SYRIZA?
