We are getting ready for the summer holiday, eating light and healthily. Check out some nutritious fruits and vegetables that will help you maintain a healthy weight.
Plums
Plums help us relieve ourselves because they regulate bowel functions and are also rich in vitamins A, C and K, as well as in plant fibre. Plums energize us and are good for losing weight while at the same time protecting our heart.
Cherries
They have an antioxidant effect and are low in calories. Besides, they are liked by everyone: by adults and children. Cherries protect your heart and help you sleep soundly. They contain lycopene, which does wonders and is also found in tomatoes. A serving of cherries is a good source of fibre and vitamin C.
Cucumbers
If you like Greek salad, make a gift to your body. Cucumbers are among the foods with greatest hydrating power. They are rich in vitamins A, C and K, as well as in magnesium and potassium. Besides, you get fewer calories as a bonus.
Okra (Gumbo)
This is an underrated vegetable, but if cooked appropriately, you will devour it with pleasure. Okra may not be among the most preferred vegetables, but it is a very good source of fibre, vitamins A, B6, C and K, as well as calcium and magnesium.
Apricots
They are rich in vegetable fibre and high in sugar, they contain vitamins Α, C and K, riboflavin (Β2) and niacin (Β3). Experts say that if we eat 3 apricots a day, we meet nearly 100% of our daily need of vitamin A.
Zucchini
One cup of zucchini contains 36 calories and 10% of the daily requirement of plant fibre. Fibre improves digestion, it maintains the levels of blood sugar low and reduces appetite. Vitamins C and A together with the salicylic acid contained in zucchini act as a strong antioxidant against oxidative stress, which is believed to cause various types of cancer.
Papaya
Exotic papaya may not be very popular for our latitude, but you'll find it in supermarkets. Taste it, it is full of vitamins. Did you know that only papaya contains almost 70% of the required amount of vitamin A and three times more than the required amount of vitamin C? Papaya is a good source of fibre and potassium, and contains some of the antioxidants typical of other orange and yellow foods such as sweet potatoes; such antioxidants are good for the skin and immune system.
