Although ''The Lobster'' has not been released yet, director Giorgos Lanthimos is getting ready for his new film. It seems the latter will be his breakthrough with mainstream audiences. Not only for its script, but also for its main characters.
According to the prestigious Deadline movie site, Lanthimos's new film will feature three famous actresses: Kate Winslet, Emma Stone and Olivia Colman.
After ''Dogtooth'', which made film buffs around the world delirious, ''Alps'' and the Cannes-awarded ''The Lobster'', which co-opted major Hollywood names like Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz, Lanthimos will this time deal with something more conventional.
His new film will be called ''The Favourite'', and will be a period drama. The screenplay was written by Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara. The plot will unfold in the 17th century. Olivia Colman will play Queen Anne, Kate Winslet will be the Duchess of Marlborough, Sarah, and Emma Stone will be Abigail, Sarah's distant poor relative. The narrative will negotiate a string of political machinations in the royal court.
All this looks quite trivial compared to what Lanthimos has done so far. But it certainly won't simply be yet another historical drama.
