The Athens Photo Festival, which is a continuation of the International Photography Month will be organized in different museums and galleries throughout November. The opening party will take place on November 6 in Esplanada Hall (next to the tae-kwon-do field).
The theme of the festival is crossroads, which becomes evident from the title of Athens Photo Festival – “Crossroads”.
The program includes 34 independent and 17 group video installation projects, photo seminars, educational programs, discussions and competitions – all within the field of photography.
One of the most interesting exhibitions is the one of Thanos Vretos in Benaki Museum, which shows photos of cinema halls in the provinces, summer cinemas and multiplexes, where people sink in the atmosphere of the seventh art.
Another interesting photo exhibition is the one of Larry Fink called “Every moment counts,” which will be displayed in the Greek-American Culture Center and which shows portraits of beat generation representatives. The photographer has included some of his new photographs from the series “The Democrats,” which show moments of the pre-election campaign of the current US President Barack Obama.
For eighth consecutive year Panasonic announced its interesting LUMIX photo competition, which started on October 26 and will continue until April 30, 2010. The theme of the competition is “Visualize Music”. Photographers will have to send one photo every month, in which they will have to capture the invisible world of music in a photo. Every month a winner will be announced and awarded with a LUMIX DMC-ZX1 photo camera. The final winner will win LUMIX DMC-GF1 (the smallest and lightest Panasonic digital photo camera) and two tickets for the concert of Blue Man Group. For more information visit www.lumixaward.com.
