The exhibition of flowers, which started today on the Athens Kodziya Square to the City Hall, presents and offers more than 600 species of flowers and aromatic plants. Prices are very decent, the lowest being 0.50 euros for petunias and between 2 and 5 euros for different types of flowers and herbs. The exhibition will take place until June 5th, and plenty of shows for children will be held during the Week of Environment from May 28th to June 5th to acquaint them with recycling and environment protection.

You can buy herbs from the pavilions since it turns out that they are some of the most popular plants and are offered at very good prices of about 2 to 3 euros. Customers have different preferences - some buy basil, mint and rosemary to use them for cooking or aroma in the rooms, while some even seek them to prevent them from mosquitoes. Strawberries and cherry tomatoes are offered as potted plants and are suitable for growing on the balcony.

"We have been growing outdoor aromatic plants and flowers for four years already. People are looking for aromatic plants such as basil, mint, and rosemary. As for their growing - all the flowers and plants need care and love. Prices are very low because people have no money and we try to be competitive and to sell our plants," told the representative of the Caruana Tiresia company which takes part in the exhibition for the second time.

There are separate pavilions for growers specialized in growing orchids, roses and cactuses and plants for open areas such as small bushes. They have their fans that go to the vendors and want advices on growing, watering and replanting.

"Our company is located on the island of Samos, where we have been growing orchids for more than 32 years. This is our fifth participation in the exhibition of flowers. Of course, we reduced the flowers prices. There is market demand and people already know how to care for their orchids," said Amirsoni Yakumi. She presents very interesting species such as the black hanging orchid the roots of which slide down without having to be buried in the dust and it is enough to spray it with water to grow it, said Amirsoni. There are many customers at her pavilion who are interested in the prices of orchids and how to care for them. Some are very curious and touch the roots of the orchids hanging in the air and Mrs. Yakumi tells them to be careful because the flowers are very sensitive. She sells orchids bulbs for 2 or 3 euros, while the lowest price for a blooming orchid varies from 17 euros up to 140 euros for a large pot with a grown flower.

The exhibition offers information and publications about growing your own garden with insignificant efforts but significant delight, as well as about the wild grasses in nature that you can find and pick when hiking and which are suitable for making salads or to garnish dishes. There is a separate pavilion offering flowers seeds and seedling of pumpkins, cucumbers and other garden plants.

The flower exhibition is organised by the Municipality of Athens in cooperation with the association of flower growers in Attica. Through the exhibition of flowers and plants, the municipality of Athens is trying to attract people's attention on issues related to recycling and the active participation of citizens in keeping the city clean, said Mayor George Kaminis during a press conference on the occasion of the event. Another objective of the exhibition is to present the local plant species and to try to make the capital residents take part in initiatives for planting more greenery and plants in Athens.
