Ninety works by famous artists of the period of modernism are included in the exhibition “Woman as Muse 1900-1950” presented at the Herakleidon Museum. The exhibition will last to November 21, 2010

The works –water-colours, prints and drawings of the first fifty years of the twentieth century – reflect the main art trends in that era and present the image of women in different ways. We can dive into the world of women seen through the eyes of artists as a mother, a beloved one, a girlfriend or as a “hidden secret” presented in an exceptional way – caring, seductive, strong or secretive.

The exhibition presents works from the collections of the Herakleidon Museum, Alpha Bank, the Greek National Gallery and Alexandros Sutzus Museum as well as from the private collections of George Economu and Charalambos Leontiadis. Visitors have the chance to admire works by Picasso, Dali, Matisse, Lautrec, Klimt, Yannis Moralis, Economidis, Zeppos, Kefallinos, Vassiliou, Galanis, Theodoropoulos, Giannoukakis, Costas Grammatopoulos, George Economidis and Markos Zavitzianos.

The collection of the Herakleidon Museum contains works of Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Henri Matisse, Aristide Maillol, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Paul Landacre, Dame Laura Knight, Theophile-Alexandre Steinlen and Childe Hassam.

The collection of the Greek National Gallery presents the works of Pierre Bonnard, Henri Matisse, Gustav Klimt, Pablo Picasso, Egon Schiele, Jules Pascin, Yannis Moralis, George Varlamos, George Economidis, Markos Zavitzianos, Emmanuel Zeppos, Dimitrios Galanis, Alexandros Korogiannakis, Dimitris Giannoukakis, Yannis Kefallinos, Costas Grammatopoulos and Angelos Theodoropoulos.

The works of Spyros Vassiliou, Dimitrios Galanis, Angelos Theodoropoulos, Dimitris Giannoukakis, Geogre Economidis, Costas Grammatopoulos, and Markos Zavitzianos are from the collection of Alpha Bank.

The collection of George Economou presents the works of Franz von Stuck, Alfons Walde, Lev Tchistovsky, Anton Peschka, Otto Müller, Otto Rudolf Schatz, Arthur Brusenbauch, Max Beckmann, Jeanne Mammen, Béla Kádár, Jean Metzinger and Erich Metzoldt.

Charalambos Leontiadis’ collection presents the work “La Parisienne” by Dimitrios Galanis.
