The expert: The next terrorists’ step will be more dangerous

Could these groups have connections with Al Qaeda?

No, not likely. Unfortunately, when a government in Europe or the rest of the world sees that they get bombs from Yemen and Greece they could consider there is something in common. In fact, there is no such element. The members of the organizations here totally oppose the concept of religion. They are against it and its representatives. Furthermore, European and in particular Greek organizations have sent parcel bombs long before the members of Al Qaeda started to do this in Yemen.

Do you think parcel bomb sending has anything to do with the local elections that will be held this and the next Sunday?

Let me say first that the parcel bombs were not lethal. They were rather aimed to impress. Their senders are not professionals but are very inventive. The parcels could not kill a man, but caused serious problems, at least in Greece. We should be aware that groups of this type operate in a framework of political, social and economic processes that affect one country or are valid globally. I think that nothing is by accident. But I also think that the elections would be held anyway. When preparing for these actions the groups have other motives not just what happens in a country. What could those motives be? Those could include the fact that many of them were arrested; their personal belief that they are political prisoners; their faith that the revolution is on the brink and they have to start it.

Would you comment on their behaviour to the authorities? We have seen that they are not only very rude, but also provocative.

That’s right. They are rude, provocative, very decisive, take responsibility, have a greater expansiveness. Remember that they consider the state and its bodies - police, the media - their greatest enemies. Therefore, their attitude to this entire system is hostile. We all saw on television how rude they were to the journalists when they were taken to the prosecutor.

Is this a result of some kind of preparation?

It is not the result of preparation, but of anger. They are angry and furious.

Do you think we should expect an increase in terrorist acts?

I think this phenomenon has been developing progressively so far. Therefore, the next step will be more dangerous.
